The plan for this trip is to start at Glacier National Park and follow the Continental Divide as closely as possible all the way to the US-Mexico border.  Definite stops will include Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park and the Telluride Music Festival in Telluride, Colorado.  Other than that, the trip is wide open.  Total trip time is expected to be about 40 days.

Food for thought...

Bicycles use less energy per passenger mile than any other form of transportation, including walking. A medium-sized car uses approximately 1,860 calories per passenger mile; public buses average 920, rail transport about 885, and walking roughly 100 calories per "passenger" mile. A bicycle comes in at about 35 calories per passenger mile!

Think ethanol is a good idea?  An ear of corn has an estimated 123 calories.  A cyclist will burn 354 calories in an hour going 10 mph (35 calories per mile).  A cyclist can go about 3.5 miles on an ear of corn.   A car?  350 feet.  You do the math.
